Our words reveal our thoughts;
Our manners mirror our self-esteem;
Our actions reflect our character;
Our habits predict the future.

"What would make your life more wonderful?" -- A rhetorical question

"When a warrior begins to see the enemy as a human being, he begins to hesitate, to wonder if there's another way than war. He is no longer fit for battle and if he doesn't leave the field he will be taken from it by the very people he sympathizes with." --Troy Chapman, Through My Enemy's Eyes

UWM's Peace Studies Department offers Course 201, Introduction to Conflict Resolution and Peace, at Whitefish Bay High School this semester. Our instructor, Constance Popp, EdD, also serves as a Campus Minister at the Catholic Campus Ministry Newman Center on Downer Avenue.

As part of her course, Journals are kept by students in response to quotations that are offered each week. In my case, the web log, or "blog" was already in place and seemed a natural place to share the writings with the rest of the planet.

"Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you - not because they are nice, but because you are." -- Author unknown.

With the UWM Men's Soccer team traveling in the Carolinas all weekend, the opportunity to catch up on the previous two weeks worth of photographs presented itself. Scanning and sorting through over two thousand image files, throwing out the blurred, faceless, or boring shots, consumed perhaps 15 to 18 hours.

The results were boiled down to six CDs, to be presented to the Sports Editor of The UWM Post, Nick Dettmann, for consideration. Included with the soccer photos from the Coca Cola Panther Classic Invitational were 116 images from the Men's Cross Country run at UW-Parkside.

The UWM Post is published each Wednesday. Web access to the files is at our temporary galleries: http://johnjaymilwaukee.com/uwmpost/index.html Please feel free to take a look. The images are reduced for email and webpages, but are not suitable resolution for photo prints.

My fall class at UWM, Intoduction to Conflict Resolution and Peace, conducts its second session on Monday evening. Due to an Open House at Whitefish Bay High School, the venue has been moved the professor's offices at the Newman Center on Downer Avenue.

Some people might laugh at my enrollment in a Peace Studies course, in light of my hawkish leanings. This class is equivalent to Psychology 201, and may be a much needed opportunity to bring some balance into our lives.

I look forward to balancing out the Tree Huggers (There's at least one in the class, with a button) with some pragmatic thinking on Just Warfare. "From Mount Olympus, this is Zeus, with a lightning bolt signoff... Have a Nice Day!"
